Sony’s Bungie development team is witnessing major changes with today’s announcement of laying off 220 employees, which represents about 17% of the team’s workforce. The matter does not end here with the announcement of the departure of 155 employees from the team (representing 12% of the workforce) and their joining Sony with a new development team working on a completely new game project.
These changes are due to the high cost of development and changes in the current gaming industry landscape according to team leader Pete Parsons. The layoffs will be from various positions in the team, including its board of directors. The new project for the newly established team with Sony will be an action game and a fantasy world.
