New reports from Reuters indicate that the Chinese government has dismissed government official Feng Shixin from his position as head of the publishing department of the National Press and Publication Administration, which is the government body responsible for enacting laws that have an impact on video games, media content, and other entertainment and news content in the country.
The reason for the dismissal, according to reports, are the laws for which a draft was introduced recently, which aimed to limit the money that players can spend on video games, in addition to limiting gameplay mechanics that encourage spending more time playing, such as rewards for daily access to those games.
News about these new laws caused the value of shares of huge Chinese gaming companies such as Tencent and NetEase to decline sharply, leading to losses approaching 80 billion dollars! A government spokesman did not comment on these reports and Reuters was unable to contact Shixin.
