Microsoft has announced that it will stop releasing updates for Windows 11, meaning that no major features will be released until January 2025.
The company had released the latest OS Build on November 12, which focused mainly on addressing security issues. It also confirmed that no beta updates will be released in December 2024, except for monthly security updates. Microsoft explained on its official website that “due to limited activities during the year-end and new year holidays, no non-security preview updates will be released in December 2024, and updates will be limited to the monthly security build. Regular beta updates, including security and non-security builds, will resume in January 2025.”
Microsoft typically releases monthly betas of Windows 11 to users in the Windows Insiders (Developers and Beta) channels. These builds contain new features that may later be released to the general public, but they don’t always make it into the final builds. The company pauses these updates during the holiday season due to many employees being absent due to vacations.
Recently, a Windows Insider discovered a “Universal Share Button” feature inside a preview build code, a feature that was disabled by default, but provides the ability to use the Share Button throughout Windows 11 once enabled.
It is worth noting that Microsoft’s security updates will continue as usual, as the company fixed 91 security vulnerabilities in Windows 11 in its latest security update, including four vulnerabilities, some of which are actively exploited by hackers.
