Randy Pitchford Admits He Underestimated Steam Expectations

Borderlands 3 was released exclusively on the Epic Games Store on PC in 2019, and then-Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford commented on the decision by saying that Steam would start dying in 5 to 10 years.

Steam is still the largest digital store on PC and continues to set records in terms of monthly active players and other numbers, and Pitchford recently spoke about his old tweets after Gearbox announced Borderlands 4 would be released on Steam.

Pitchford posted a long tweet in which he stated that the Epic Games Store could have pushed Steam to its death if Epic had taken advantage of the advantages that distinguish it from Steam, but that did not happen, and Pitchford admitted that his expectations for the Epic Games Store were the result of misjudgments or unrealistically positive expectations.
