By the last weeks of 2023, Sony’s home device, the PlayStation 5, was able to monitor sales reaching 2,587,000 units sold since its release, bringing the total sales of the device to 4,965,000 units sold.
This number is the highest sales number for a home device from Sony during one year since the PlayStation 2 device in the year 2004. Since that time, it sold more than 2 million copies in the years 2005 and 2006, respectively, but after that, none of the home devices was able to exceed the barrier of 2 million units.
