Report: Piranha Bytes studio, developer of Gothic and Elex, affiliated with Embracer Group, is at risk of closure

According to a new report from RPG Platform, the German studio behind the Gothic, Risen, and Elex game series will close its doors unless it can find a new owner or publisher. THQ Nordic, the Embracer subsidiary that owns the studio, has reportedly said it can keep the Piranha Bytes name. And the rights to the sci-fi RPG series, Elex, if you can find a way to follow through.

The studio responded to the reports in a message posted to X on Monday. It said:

“We, Piranha Bytes, are in a difficult situation.”

“There is a lot of news circulating about us now and this is our answer: Don’t write us off yet!

“We do our best to continue creating worlds in which you can lose yourself. This is what we always like to do. We are convinced that we will succeed. We are creative minds and there is no shortage of ideas! We stick together, no matter what.

“Now, we are focusing on this goal with all our might and doing everything necessary to find a partner for this project. As soon as there is any news, we will share it with you. Thank you very much for your continued support.”
