Mr. Hideaki Itsuno, director of Dragon’s Dogma II, revealed in his interview with IGN the global network his opinion on the idea of games including a fast travel feature, as he said that he believes that including such a feature represents an implicit admission that moving around in the game is boring.
He talked about his game, saying:
We’ve put a lot of work into designing a game where you can bump into someone and a lot of things happen, so although it’s okay if it has fast travel, we decided to design the kind of map where players would make the decision themselves to travel by bike or on foot to enjoy the journey .
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, fast travel isn’t exactly seamless. It’s an expensive practice that will see the player limit the number of times they use the function, which is a far cry from most open world games hitting the market these days. In Dragon’s Dogma II you can get robbed midway through while fast traveling, which doesn’t always make it an ideal option.
